No Fuss Smoothies

As a Beachbody coach, part of my job is to make sure that I'm getting my daily dose of dense nutrition by drinking Shakeology.

Except, I had a problem.

I hated washing the blender after every smoothie that I made. I would inevitably knick or poke myself on some part of the blade.

It was annoying to say the least, until one day it occurred to me, as I was pouring my smoothie into my mason jar, "I wonder if the blender blade would fit onto my mason jar?" I took my blender apart and lo and behold it worked! So here's how I've made my smoothies ever since. Let me know if you try it, and how you like it!

Peach Colada Shakeology Recipe

Hey guys!

For December I have a goal of working out at least twice a week. It doesn't matter the workout, just as long as I'm getting in some physical activity. So far, I'm still on track. I'm still doing my Beachbody workouts, but admittedly, I don't really drink the shakeology which is something that I feel I could do better on.

I get bored pretty easily so it probably comes as no surprise that I just can't drink the same thing everyday without getting tired of it. I thought I could share some of the shakeology recipes that I come up with.

What you need:

-1 scoop of Vanilla Shakeology

-1/2 cup of coconut milk

-1 cup pineapple juice

-1 cup of frozen peaches

Let me know what you think!

Vanilla Shakeology Recipe: Orange Peach

Drinking protein shakes are hard for me especially because I'm just not used to drinking them, but since starting my Beachbody challenge yesterday, I've made it a goal to get used to having them every day. It's going to be difficult, honestly.

But I've been thinking about recipes and how I can make them interesting for me. I knew I was going to try a bunch of different recipes so I went ahead and got the 30-day bag of Vanilla Shakeology because I figured it would be the most versatile of all the flavors.

Drinks: Cinnamon Apple Hot Toddy

Cinnamon Apple Hot Toddy

So I know it's kind of random to blog about a Fall/Winter drink when we're officially in Spring, but it's just been so blustery in SoCal lately. My apartment is one of those old apartments where it's freezing during the winter and scorching hot during the Summer, and I have Western facing windows, so until the Spring Equinox comes, it barely gets much light and I've been drinking these to keep me warm.

What You'll Need

  • 1T agave or honey
  • 1/2 a lemon
  • 1/2 to 1 full shot of Fireball Whiskey
  • Cold-pressed apple juice

What To Do:

  1. Warm up apple juice in a small pot until hot, but not boiling.
  2. Meanwhile, squeeze the juice from the lemon, add the tablespoon of Agave, and the shot of Fireball to your cup.
  3. Remove apple juice from stove when ready and add to cup.
  4. Stir and serve.

This was my favorite warm drink this past winter and obviously it's now become my go-to, HA!

Thankfully, we should be warming up soon and I won't have to worry anymore.

In the meantime, enjoy!

Drinks: Citrus Sunrise Juice

Citrus Sunrise Ingredients

Remember last week when I shared the Lemon Carrot Smoothie with you? Well I'm back again with a juice made entirely from fruit that is currently in season. I don't have a juicer. I wish I did but as the saying goes, "Make Do", so I used my blender instead.

You'll Need:

  • 1 red grapefruit
  • 2 oranges
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1T Agave

What To Do: Squeeze all the juice out of each fruit. Add 1T of Agave nectar, you can use honey as well, Blend. If you prefer to have pulp with yours, just add a bit of flesh from both the orange and the grapefruit.

Citrus Sunrise Juice
And as the name of it implies, it's a great for breakfast!

Lemon Carrot Smoothie

If you didn't know, this week I started posting on the Panda Gets Fit blog again. I've gained weight and so I'm on a mission to lose it (again). I remember I posted something about eating with the seasons and how it can help save money. Since March started I've been drinking TONS of water and I just wanted something that had flavor, but was still healthy.  I went looking for fruits that are currently in season and thought about what would taste good together.

Lemon Carrot SmoothieYou'll need:

  • A carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 3 pineapple slices
  • Juice from one lemon
  • Agave, to taste

Blend, obviously. Ha!

Lifeway Kefir and Greenberry Shakeology

Lifeway Kefir Influenster Review

Today I wanted to talk a little about Lifeway Kefir. I was recently invited by Influenster to try this product but what made me jump on the invitation was the fact that I had read a little about it in the April issue of Cooking Light

What? Kefir, usually pronounced key-fur, keh-fear, or keh-fur. It's like yogurt but not really. The probiotics in kefir have the good kind of bateria that help aid in digestion. Lifeway in particular has 12 live, active cultures compared with yogurt which usually has 2.

I don't know if I'm slightly lactose intolerant but I can't really have dairy products that are too heavy without them upsetting my stomach. That means, milk-based ice cream, yogurt, milk that has higher than 2% milk fat, and even cheese (But I won't give up my Muenster and Colby Jack). Nope, no sir.

Anyway, I genuinely DO like eating yogurt but knowing what it does to me, I don't eat it very often so when I read that it's more like a liquid yogurt and 99% lactose-free, I just had to try it. It's also gluten-free but I'm not on that bandwagon so that didn't really hinder or help my initial thought of it.

I've been regularly drinking the Greenberry Shakeology shakes from Beachbody and thought that mixing the kefir in with my shake would be perfect. I used a cup of Coconut Milk from Fresh & Easy, 1/2 cup of Blueberry kefir and a scoop of the Greenberry shakeology and mixed it in my blender bottle and it really makes the shake taste that much better.

I also tried it by itself and it really is delicious! It kind of reminded me of those Go-Gurt snacks. I don't know if they're still around though. It's totally drinkable and didn't upset my stomach in the slightest. I have to stop myself from drinking more than one cup a day, and honestly I've already bought more since trying that inital bottle, and will most likely continue to do so. They say that there are frozen versions like pint sized and popsicles but I have yet to encounter any of those though I really wish I could find those versions.

The only issue I had was that three of my local grocery stores didn't carry it so I had to go to a little bit out of the way to find it. If you want to try it out and want to know what local grocery store carries Lifeway Kefir, try using the store locator to help you in your search.

DISCLAIMER: I received this product from Influenster for reviewing purposes and the above is my 100% honest opinion.

Drinks: Strawberry Lemonade

Strawberry Lemonade

Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits and since we're in full strawberry season, here's another recipe using them. This recipe is for 1 pint of lemonade which serves one, so adjust accordingly to make a larger batch.
You'll need:
1 lemon (I'm using meyer lemons from my dad's tree)
3-4 strawberries (stems removed)
simple syrup
Mash strawberries in the bottom of your cup. Squeeze both halves of your lemon into the cup. Add water to dilute the lemon. Add simple syrup to taste and mix. Easy, peasy lemon squeeze-y!
To make simple syrup, boil a cup of water to a cup of sugar, stirring until the sugar has desolved. You probably will use less then a 1/4 of it, so be sure to store it.

Drinks: Agua Fresca

This stuff right here is the business! My grandma would make this stuff for us kids almost every other day during my summers in Mexico. She would use whatever leftover fruit she had on hand, so I've had many different kinds. Watermelon (My favorite), pineapple, mango, cucumber. Today I'm showing you melon (or cantaloupe). It's probably the most refreshing thing you can have on those hot summer days, which we've been getting a lot of lately here in SoCal.

You'll need:

  • 6 cups of fruit (I used a whole cantaloupe, seeded and rind cut off of course)
  • 1 cup of ice
  • 3 cups of water
  • juice from 1/2 lime or lemon
  • 3 tablespoons of agave or cane sugar
  • pinch of salt

Throw it all in a blender and blend. I like it with pulp, but if you don't, you can strain the mixture. Drink it cold! Delish! Thanks Grandma!

Pink Delight Smoothie

This is a simple smoothie I made up with some left over fruit that I had on hand that was soon going south.
You'll Need:
  • 1 pear
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 cup of raspberries
  • Honey
  • Water

Peel and cut the pear and apple into cubes, removing the cores. Blend with the raspberries  and water. Taste and sweeten with the honey.
