Monday Quotable + Happy Veteran's Day

Theodore Roosevelt Quote
I thought it quite fitting to use this quote from Theodore Roosevelt on this Veteran's Day. You see, Roosevelt took to eulogizing fallen soldiers of WWI when his youngest son Quentin was killed in a dogfight over Germany. Roosevelt was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1897 by President McKinley, and in that role became acting secretary as John Davis Long took summer vacation. It was through Roosevelt's presidency that the US started to build up it's navy. Peace required prepardness and the navy would be the cornerstone of American foriegn policy.

But enough of a History lesson. I'd like to take a moment to tell you about Heinz Ketchup's Our Turn to Serve Website. I saw this yesterday when I went for lunch with my dad and immediately saw the Wounded Warrior Project logo.

"The greatest causalty is being forgotten". That's what it says on the Wounded Warrior Project website. They're one of the organizations that I support 1000% simply because of my ties with people in the military. Their vision and purpose are:

To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.

  • To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.
  • To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
  • To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.

With a few simple clicks on the Our Turn to Serve Website, Heinz will donate $1 to Wounded Warrior Project. It'll also donate and additional $0.57 when you share it on your Facebook or Twitter accounts. You have an option to send it to a veteran or active service member chosen by American Red Cross or to a member that you know. You can also tag your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #outturntoserve and Heinz will donate $0.57.

They're donating up to $250,000 and currently they're at $149,321. Doing it through the website takes about 2 minutes of your time, so go thank a veteran and help raise funds for Wounded Warrior Project.
