10 Beach Bags Under $35

Summer's finally here and even though I try to get out to the beach as much as possible, I still haven't fully gotten out there. While I do have my beach bag packed and ready in my trunk for an impromptu stop, I know there are still quite a few people who haven't been able to make it. Now I don't blame you, life happens and sometimes we get a late start to things. So if you haven't gotten your 2017 summer beach bag ready yet, I'm here to show you some cute and affordable options.

10-Beach-totes-under-35-dollarsLet's start clockwise from the top left.

  1. Dry Pak Roll Top Dry Bag ($14.99, swimoutlet.com) I'm putting this bag up here because I know there are a few people who are paranoid about leaving their belongings out on the beach while they're in the water. (I know, I'm one of them!) So what's the next best thing? Bringing your belongings with you. Throw your phone, camera, keys, and wallet in your dry bag, throw it over your shoulders and then frolic in the waves a bit. Or don't frolic, it's up to you, but you know what I mean!
  2. SunnyLife Havana Cooler Tote ($30, swimoutlet.com) This tote bag is a cooler to help keep your drinks and snacks nice and fresh while out on a hot day at the beach.
  3. Essentials Tote ($34.95, Billabong.com) A clean, simple, classic beach tote with rope handles. What more do you need, amirite?!
  4. Large Straw Tote ($34.99, target.com) Since straw and pompoms seem to have been all the rage earlier this year and now into summer, I thought I'd add one in. This one's big enough to toss in a towel, one of your summer reads, some sunblock, sunglasses and a hat, and you're ready to roll out.
  5. Frakta ($0.99, ikea.com)  If you're one of those people who like to pack everything and the kitchen sink (same. TBH), this just might be your bag. Not only is it your cheapest option on this list, it's most likely that it's also the biggest bag. If you've never seen one of these in person, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!  But just so you know, people tend to use it as a laundry bag. THAT'S HOW BIG IT IS! And especially with the whole Balenciaga thing earlier this year...
  6. Large Linen Tote ($34.99, target.com) Another straw bag, but I promise you this is the last one because honestly, the whole straw thing... nuh-uh. ANYWAY, it's pretty cute with the whole embroidered leaf motif it's got going on. This one measures 15Hx25Wx7D, which is pretty good if you're NOT like those of us who need to pack everything. Just like the other straw bag, it holds the basics which is all some people need. Not this person, though. *points at self *
  7. Netted Sheer Tote ($22.90, Forever21.com) You know what's the best thing about netted tote bags and the beach? You don't have to worry about cleaning out the sand! It just sifts right through, which is these kinds of bags are awesome! What I don't like about netted bags is that sometimes I change clothes at the beach which means my chonies are in plain sight. Win some. Lose some. Eh.
  8. Women's Woven Tote ($14.97, walmart.com) This bag comes in a bunch of different colors but I like the pink one the best. A couple of pompoms, a few tassels, and let's call it a day, shall we?
  9. Love Runs Deep Ombre Tote  ($24, nastygal.com) If ombre is still your thing, there's this bag. It also comes in blue. Can we all say 'gender stereotype' in unison? No? Okay. Anyway, Nasty Gal is having a 50%-off-on-everything sale so snag this as soon as you can if you want it.
  10. Shania Glitter Tote ($29, UrbanOutfitters.com) This Glitter-laden, gorgeous tote is made from PVC which means it's super easy to clean. So aside from everyone seeing your goods, it's probably one of my favorites from this list. I'm sorry, I just can't say 'no' to glitter, jeez!

Are there any bags on this list that you're thinking about getting, now? Let me know which one. Personally, I'm  eyeing that dry pak!

Summer. Do. 2017

Every year I compose my Summer. Do. list. This is basically all the things that I want to do this summer. It can range from 'go to a drag show' to 'get a darker tan'. I don't think I made one last year but since I'm getting back into the habit of blogging, her we are. So without further ado here is this year's ...

Summer-Do-20171. Rides at the Santa Monica Pier.

2. Movies at the beach

3. Have a bonfire/ make s'mores

4. Eat sushi once a week

5. Go bike riding

6. Visit Catalina Island

7. Go swimming once a week

8. 24 hours in Las Vegas

9. Start geocaching again

So that's what I have up my sleeve for the summer. What are your plans? Leave them in the comments. I'd love to know!

What's In My Beach Bag?

As somebody who practically lives at the beach, especially during the summer, there are a few things that I like to keep  in my beach bag that aren't beauty related, so I thought I'd share them with you.

What's-In-My-Beach-Bag

1/ You Had Me At Aloha bag

I actually picked this up from Ross about a week ago and needed to have it. Before this, I was using a mesh bag that allows sand to seep through so it doesn't get stuck.

2/Sunglasses

A cheap pair that I bought at Santee Alley and then attached gemstones to.

3/Purell Hand Sanitizer (Affiliate Link)

As anyone who's been to the beach with me can attest to, I have a tendency to have mini beach clean-ups. It just comes naturally. I can't help but start picking up trash, so having hand sanitizer in my bag really helps when there aren't bathrooms to wash my hands.

4/ Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Lotion (Affiliate Link)

I'll admit that there are times when I forget how long I've been out in the sun and end up getting a little burned when I never intended to. This stuff smells amazing! (Coconut and papaya) It contains aloe and shea butter so it cools and relieves any burns and also helps to maintain your tan.

5/ Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Lotion (Affiliate Link)

Despite knowing how bad it is to tan in the sun, I really do love it, but to help achieve that tan a little faster I like to use this tanning lotion.

6/ Beach Stakes (Affiliate Link)

How many times have you laid down a blanket or towel on the sand only to have to find things to lay on the corners so it doesn't go flying away? Well these sweet little beach stakes help stop that. You just pull a corner of your towel or blanket through the hole, then dig the stake into the sand, and all is well.

7/ Kindle Fire

Even though I try to keep my electronics away from the beach to keep from sand getting into them, I do like to bring my kindle to read my books. I never really know what reading mood I'll be in when I get there. With my kindle, I have my library with me.

8/ Mexican Blanket

I got this blanket a few years ago when I took my trip to Catalina Island

These are pretty much my bag essentials. What do you keep in your beach bag?

Also, this post contains affiliate links which means that if you make a purchase through those links, I get a small commission. Thank you for supporting BBG!

Small Steps To Live A More Ocean-Friendly Life

So tomorrow is Earth Day and if you've been wondering how you could live a more ocean-friendly life, I can tell you that it's not so hard. I know it may seem like a huge undertaking. I mean, what difference can one person make? The answer honestly is, a lot! It's also nothing earth-shatteringly difficult. Just making a few small swaps is all it takes and I'm here to tell you about them!

Small-Steps-To-Live-A-More-Ocean-Friendly-Life

  1. Don't Be Trashy

Make sure that the trash that you throw away makes it's way into the proper receptacles. Something that I've noticed during beach clean-ups is that there is usually an accumulation of trash near the trash cans. I guess people have a tendency to think "close enough." Well no. "Close enough" is when it's actually IN the trash can.

2. Ditch The Disposable

Make it a point to use reusable bags, water bottles/cups, and containers. Keep a reusable straw and a fork in your bag so that you can use them whenever you're out and about. Plastic straws are one of the top five ocean trash items and easily get swallowed by ocean animals.

3. Say 'No' To Foam

Instead of biodegrading, plastic breaks down into tiny particles which are ingested by and kill fish. (Surfrider.org)

See, I told you it's not so hard. Just a few swaps and  you're golden. Which one will you implement first?

Beach Babes Guide Instagram Challenge

Hey Babes!

I know its been a while but I thought I would come back with something a little fun for the summer.

Every summer I come up with a Summer. Do. List. All the things that I want to do over the summer. Some of them are small like, go out for sushi. Some are bigger, like go scuba diving. Well, I thought it would be fun to issue some sort of Summer instagram challenge.

Design-2016-06-04-23-48-33
I thought a little bit about each of these and came to a conclusion. Most Instagram photo challenges are about capturing small moments. All of the items for this challenge have to be intentional, or pure luck to be in the same place.

You have to go out of your way to make these things happen, but most of all, they're helping you create memories this summer. The purpose of this challenge is NOT to capture the small moments. The purpose of this challenge is to get you out while you're having fun and creating memories.

Most of these activities have to be planned.

Having tacos at a new Mexican restaurant that has live mariachi's? Buck up the courage to ask for a sombrero to take a picture with.

If you're one of my babes with anxiety, some of these are meant for you to get out of your head.

25 year old on a coin operated machine outside a grocery store? Are people judging you? Maybe, but are you having fun? THAT'S what matters most.

The Deets:

  • The challenge lasts the WHOLE summer.
  • If you decide to participate, please use the hash tag #BBGSummerFun
  • I want to see your photos and will be tagging mine the same way.

The Challenges:

  • On a spiral slide
  • Wearing a sombrero
  • Jumping in the air
  • Wearing Mickey Mouse ears
  • In a fun house mirror
  • Playing mini golf
  • In a blow up kiddie pool
  • In a ball pit
  • Roasting marshmallows around a bonfire
  • Doing a handstand
  • Flying kites
  • In a Jacuzzi
  • On an amusement park ride
  • Smiley face bacon and eggs breakfast
  • With an Elvis impersonator
  • Sharing a milkshake
  • At the batting cages
  • At an ice cream truck
  • Underwater
  • On a coin operated ride
  • Bday at a restaurant with employees singing
  • Wrapped in a flag
  • Running through sprinklers
  • At a giant slot machine
  • Wearing novelty sunglasses
  • Hitting a piñata
  • Drinking coke from a glass bottle with a straw

There you have it. Challenge issued. Will you participate?

Love ya!

Summer. Do. 2015

If you've read this blog for more than a year, you'll know that every summer I create a Summer. Do. list. Things I'd like to achieve or do over the next three months. (See 2012, 2013, and 2014) Here are the things that made the list this year.

Summer-2015-Bucket-ListSome things are reoccurrence simply because they've become a summer tradition for me, like Movies at the Beach, barbecuing and popsicles. But this is the year that I mark zip lining off my bucket list. This is also the year that I finally learn how to swim! I'm taking a summer class at school to learn how. I'm both scared and excited. CHPG hasn't been to Catalina Island or an art walk before so I'm taking him to do that. The blog has officially been relaunched and karaoke and sushi is already planned. So mostly this summer, I want to intentionally have as much fun as I possibly can. Summer is my favorite time of the year so I like to do as many things as I can fit into the day.

What's on your Summer Do list?

Beach Day Essentials

Beach Day Essentials

This past week I had a few consecutive days off from work and beings that I've failed summer so far this year, I decided I might as well go to the beach and get some sun.

Here are my beach day essentials

EntertainmentEntertainment: I usually take my ipod and mini speaker. Usually I listen to Spotify but the beach I go to has poor reception. I also usually take a book or something to read. This particular day I was rereading the 31 Days to a Better Blog e-book.

SnacksSnacks: I like to take healthy snacks that won't spoil in the sun. So no pita chips and hummus for me. Usually it's something light and crunchy.

SelfieFinally, I like to take an awesome goofy pair of sunglasses. Usually the dark UV 400 kind. It's summer, you're at the beach, there's no reason to be serious. Take some selfies.

I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to going to the beach. I don't like taking a whole lot of stuff. Pretty much, if it can fit into a backpack, we're good, including the beach towel.

Other things I take: a bottle of water, sunscreen, and aloe vera for afterward.

What are your  beach day essentials?

Summer. Do. 2014

Summer-Do-2014Here's my annual Summer. Do. list.

This year with a new job and being in school for practically the whole year, I'm keeping it simple with the things that I know that I want to make time for. Movies at the beach is a MUST! I went to the Tiki Festival for the first time last year and I definitely want to do it again this year. Maybe Catalina for my birthday again? Geocaching is my summer tradition, and I really want to make it out to the Santa Monica Pier at least once and hang out at the arcade and ride the rollercoaster. If I don't go to Catalina, maybe I'll do that for my birthday. Also I intend on eating lots of sushi, making boozy adult popsicles and hopefully getting myself into a pool of some sorts. No one I know has a pool. I need to change that.

There's also going to be a new summer festival in Long Beach called the Love Long Beach Festival. That weekend is looking pretty spectacular. I just might have to ask for those two days off to attend, because yes, I do love Long Beach.

What are your plans for the summer? Anything fun and exciting? Do tell!

Saturday Tunes: Sante Les Amis "Brasil" and IT'S SUMMERTIME!

It's the first day of the most wonderful time of the year! Summer is my favorite season and I'll be doing a few Long Beach specific things today. There's a city wide Ice Cream Social with 40 Long Beach neighborhoods participating throughout the city, and then tonight is the first night of Movies on the Beach. It's also my mom's birthday today so I want to wish her a happy birthday. Love you, mom! With that being said, Happy Saturday!
